In the spirit of Halloween, there is still a handful of teams that can pull themselves out of the grave and save their season.

With the NFL season halfway over, the teams destined to make a run at the playoffs are separating themselves from those paying attention to draft positioning. There still exists a purgatory for teams who have not yet figured out their fate. This limbo is occupied for teams closer to watching their seasons crumble to pieces, but they’re not dead yet and haven’t been told which football afterlife awaits them this season.

These teams are one slip up away from being cast off into deepest bowels of hell, yet they still have a chance to redeem their season.

The only question is, can the escape the cold clutches of football death?

New York Jets

AFC East, (3-5)

Week 8 Result: Lost 25-20 to Atlanta

Much to the surprise of anyone with eyes, the Jets have played really solid football this year. We all assumed there would be a 1-6 team in New York at the midway point of the season and everyone’s money was firmly on it being the Jets. That’s not the case, and New York isn’t just better than we thought but it might be better than the record indicates. At 3-5, the Jets are on the outside of the playoff picture looking in but are closer to the Wild Card than anyone thought.

New York beat Jacksonville, which could end up being a tiebreaker to determine the sixth seed. The Jets couldn’t beat New England or Atlanta but almost did which is impressive in so many ways. All the credit in the world goes to Todd Bowles, whose coaching has unlocked something no one knew was there. There’s still plenty of time for the season to be resurrected, especially with the Jets playing on a level way above where anyone expected.
