New York Knicks (Projected Record: 32-50)

For yet another year, the Knicks project to be bad. 50 losses bad. Losing Carmelo Anthony to the Thunder in exchange for Enes Kanter, Doug McDermott, and a second round pick is not nearly as big a negative impact to the Knicks as casual fans might expect. Melo has long been viewed more skeptically by plus-minus metrics than his All-Star reputation, which pick up his lackluster defensive effort and help capture some of the deleterious effects of his ball-stopping and mid-range shot jacking.

Doug McDermott is probably not an NBA player, save for his one useful skill of shooting threes, but Enes Kanter projects to be a pretty average player, with his scoring and rebounding making up for his poor defensive skills. Kanter’s frontcourt mate and the player with the unique appellation, “only Knick who really matters” (it’s true, ask around), Kristaps Porzingis is easily the Knicks best player, but he’s still young and developing and clocks in at 56th on my list of projected RPMs for the year. Assuming he performs as expected, that’s simply not going to be good enough to cover for the roster flotsam that surrounds him.

Enough about the depressing Knicks. Moving on.
