Gamer Sensei makes investment in collegiate esports
As the business of collegiate esports continues to grow, Gamer Sensei has gotten involved.
Varsity esports programs continue to emerge on college campuses across the nation, and at many more schools, there are club programs who aspire to see concurrent varsity programs as well. Becker College is one such school, and its efforts to see a varsity team for games like League of Legends and Overwatch are going to be amplified by a new partnership with Gamer Sensei.
For readers unfamiliar with the company, Gamer Sensei enables amateur players for many popular game titles to buy sessions with experienced professional players for one-on-one coaching. Through this new partnership, the members of Becker’s esports club will have access to the Gamer Sensei coaching staff.
“Offering a college coaching program has been a dream of ours ever since we launched the platform,” said William Collis, co-founder of Gamer Sensei. “With one of the nation’s leading game design programs and a student body that was already plugged into the competitive gaming scene, Becker was a natural partner for us and we are excited to see how it takes off.”
Taking off is exactly what has been happening in collegiate esports, with organizations like the National Association for Collegiate esports assisting in the growth and structure of varsity clubs. As that growth continues, a partnership between these college teams and Gamer Sensei could be a win-win.
One of the challenges for creating a new varsity team at any college or university is explaining to the school’s administration how it will be paid for. Competitive esports, like traditional sports, cost money to operate. Making an in-kind sponsorship deal like the one Becker now has can help fledgling programs save money on coaching requirements.
In turn, Gamer Sensei opens up its business to a broader market, which is exactly its target demographic. Nielsen’s esports playbook revealed that the vast majority of the players for the games that Gamer Sensei offers coaching sessions in are of ages that traditionally attend college classes and younger. The increased exposure right where these people live is a great way to grow the brand.

Becker students are sure to see more winning with Gamer Sensei coaches behind them, and that will help create the varsity program. Those results, in turn, will make Gamer Sensei even more of a household brand for esports competitors.
