Which NFL trade deadline blockbuster will have the biggest impact?

1. Jimmy Garoppolo to the 49ers
John Lynch and the 49ers front office believe they’ve found their quarterback of the future. It was only a matter of time before Jimmy Garoppolo started for the Patriots offense or was dealt elsewhere. Given the current circumstances with Tom Brady, the Patriots decided to move the 25-year old quarterback to the Niners in exchange for 2018 second-round pick. The rebuilding era in San Francisco just took a major step.
While it won’t have immediate impacts this season for the 49ers, this is the best move of the trade deadline. The Niners needed a franchise quarterback and by all accounts, Garoppolo is that. He’s had three full seasons to sit behind the greatest quarterback of all time and now gets his chance to showcase his talents. With the way the Niners are heading this season, they’re set up for a high draft pick next year that could likely be running back Saquon Barkley. Pair that with what seems like an unlimited amount of cap space next season and that’s something to be excited about.
Kyle Shanahan has been labeled as one of the best offensive minds in the NFL and a quarterback whisperer. This is a match made in heaven for him getting an NFL ready quarterback smack dab in the middle of his prime. Either the Niners will look like geniuses for this trade, or the Patriots stole a second-round pick.

As rare as it is to find good offensive lineman, running backs and receivers, franchise quarterbacks are a dime a dozen. There’s still a lot of time left to tell but all signs point to a successful career for Garoppolo in San Francisco.
