World Series 2017: Astros’ George Springer named MVP

George Springer was named the 2017 World Series Most Valuable Player after tying a World Series home run record and dominating on the field.

After the Houston Astros won their first world championship in their 56 year history, outfielder George Springer was named Most Valuable Player of the 2017 World Series after notching five home runs and coming up with some of the biggest plays through seven games.

After such a clutch performance, there’s no question that Springer was the best candidate for 2017 World Series MVP.

Springer tied the World Series home run record with his five home runs in the series. He shares the distinction with Reggie Jackson (1977) and Chase Utley (2009). His two-run homer in Game 7 was his fourth home run in four games, and Springer’s hot bat was instrumental in getting the Astros on the board and keeping the lead through all seven games.

In his 83 postseason plate appearances, he batted .292 with six home runs and nine RBI. Springer came to the fore toward the end of the postseason, and he went supernova in the World Series. His presence in center field kept quite a few Dodgers from going yard.

The 28-year-old outfielder posted great numbers in the regular season, hitting .283 with 34 HRs and an .889 OPS. He was part of a well-oiled Houston Astros team that went 101-61 and saw the highest of highs during their storybook season, as well as the lowest of lows as their hometown was devastated by Hurricane Harvey. The team rallied together to be a beacon of hope for the city, wearing special patches on their uniforms to remind everyone that they are Houston Strong.

Along with the MVP trophy, Springer was given the keys to a brand new Chevy truck. Springer beamed with excitement and thanked his teammates and the city of Houston as he graciously accepted the award.
