No. 15: UCF

It wasn’t the easiest game, but UCF defeated SMU to stay perfect. This won’t look great for the committee, but with other schools ranked losing, it should make the Golden Knights a higher-ranked team in the upcoming reveal on Tuesday. How far would winning out even get them, though?

No. 14: Mississippi State

Mississippi State surged to 7-2 after a win over UMass, 34-23. It was hardly the toughest nonconference opponent for the Bulldogs, who were actually down at halftime. However, talent overcame luck, resulting in the victory and a higher spot in the rankings. A spot in the teens may not be for long, however, with No. 2 Alabama waiting.

No. 13: USC

As of this writing, USC hasn’t completed its game against Arizona but remains in the lead. A win gets them a better spot in the top 25, as it’s a win over a fellow ranked team. A College Football Playoff spot isn’t in the Trojans’ sights, but playing for the Pac-12 Championship is a possibility. Will they lose again this season?

No. 12: Oklahoma State

Oklahoma State’s high-powered offense returned in Week 10, only to be outmatched by an even better attack. The defense allowed 62 points to Oklahoma, losing the Bedlam game and falling out of the College Football Playoff picture. It may not kick them out that far, though, given the close game and the high-level opponent.

No. 11: Michigan State

Michigan State takes a step forward after defeating Penn State. Given it was a win over a top 10 opponent, look for the Spartans to rise into the top 15. Ohio State will be their next opponent, but after the events of Week 10, there’s every chance for Sparty to win and become a top 10 team after Week 11.
