The Auburn Tigers, after their performance on Saturday against the Georgia Bulldogs, seemed destined to call themselves SEC Champions soon.

If you didn’t believe the Auburn Tigers were legitimate national championship contenders with two losses on the season, then you have no choice but to believe now. Auburn made sure to turn everyone into believers with their 40-17 demolition of the No. 1 team in the country on Saturday, Georgia.

Auburn was as dominant as any team can be in defeating a No. 1 team in the nation, and with the win, they have the SEC title in their sights if they can continue to roll. After what we witnessed on Saturday inside Jordan-Hare Stadium, you almost have to believe Gus Malzahn’s team could be destined to ultimately win the SEC title and head into the College Football Playoff, even with two losses on the docket.

The Iron Bowl is in a comfortable place

In defeating No. 1 Georgia on Saturday afternoon, Auburn took care of its first piece of business in regards to claiming the SEC Championship. Now, all they have to do is defeat the Alabama Crimson Tide in two weeks in the infamous Iron Bowl and they’ll earn the right to play Georgia for a second time, with that matchup taking place in Atlanta in the SEC title game.

Speaking of that Iron Bowl, the Tide will have to travel to the same hostile environment that the Bulldogs did on Saturday, Jordan-Hare Stadium. When you’re a team on a roll like Auburn is at the moment in the stretch run of the season, having your biggest game of the season at home can end up going a long way.
