The Florida State Seminoles face the Clemson Tigers on Saturday in an ACC showdown.
Coming into the season, the expectations could not have been higher for both the Clemson Tigers and Florida State Seminoles. Led by Deondre Francois, the Seminoles were expected to be playoff contenders, while with Clemson losing Deshaun Watson, they were expected to be in the playoff hunt, but weren’t really being considered because they lost so much.
Now, with Francois going down in the first week of the season, this year has definitely been a lost year for the Seminoles. While, for Clemson, this year could not have gone any better so far behind a dominant defensive line and the arms and legs of Kelly Bryant. Bryant this year had a very tall task in replacing arguably the top player in Clemson history, Deshaun Watson. He really has kept defenses guessing, as he has thrown for over 1,770 yards while rushing for over 540 and totaling 16 total touchdowns. So, when he takes the ball, you don’t really know what is coming.
For the Seminoles, it has been rough. Ever since losing Francois, they have been forced to put a freshman out there in Justin Blackman. Blackman is having an average freshman year, throwing for 1,285 yards and eight touchdowns but also seven interceptions. Coming into the year, there might not have been a more impactful freshman in college football than Cam Akers. He has done as much as he can this year, running for 695 yards and three touchdowns, as he is trying to put some more life back into this offense.
