On Sunday at Landover, the Washington Redskins lost to the Minnesota Vikings. What did we learn from this Week 10 showdown?

You could make the case that the Washington Redskins come off their most important win of the season. Quarterback Kirk Cousins drove his team 70 yards in four plays late in the fourth quarter and Rob Kelley’s one-yard TD run helped propel the club to a 17-14 victory at Seattle. It’s safe to say that the Seahawks’ defense is one of the best in the league.

So what could be expected from Jay Gruden’s team when they hosted the hot Minnesota Vikings and a club that ranked fourth in the NFL in fewest yards allowed per game? The Purple Gang also took a four-game winning streak into Sunday’s match-up at FedExField.

So what happened by game’s end? Minnesota’s offense enjoyed a banner day and Mike Zimmer’s team made just enough plays to ensure a 38-30 win.

Three Stars

1. Case Keenum

Yes, there were a pair of interceptions, both by Washington safety D.J. Swearinger. But Keenum was more than up to the challenge at FedExField. He hit on 21 of his 29 throws, good for 304 yards and four touchdowns as the Vikings won their fifth consecutive game.

2. Adam Thielen

The underrated wide receiver totaled eight catches for 166 yards and one spectacular touchdown as the Vikings rolled up 407 total yards of offense in the 38-30 victory.

3. Kirk Cousins

There would be no comeback this time around. Cousins finished with 327 yards and a score with one interception. But the Redskins lost for the third time in four games.

Odds

Thanks mainly to their four-game winning streak, the Vikings were a 1-point road favorite heading into this tilt with the Redskins at FedExField. Given the way Minnesota’s defense has been playing this season, that 42.5 over/under bears watching when it comes to the low side.

Next Week

The Minnesota Vikings return to the Twin Cities and prepare to take on the much-improved Los Angeles Rams. On the other hand, the Washington Redskins have their work cut out for them as they hit the road for the second time in three weeks and clash with the rejuvenated New Orleans Saints in the Big Easy.
