WWE Survivor Series: 3 reasons AJ Styles beats Brock Lesnar
When AJ Styles and Brock Lesnar clash at Survivor Series, could it go in the direction no one expects?
The 2017 WWE Survivor Series pits the superstars of Raw against those of SmackDown Live. Among them will be WWE Champion AJ Styles vs. WWE Universal Champion Brock Lesnar. It should co-main event the show, along with the Team Raw vs. Team SmackDown 5-on-5 match.
Styles against Lesnar hasn’t happened in a WWE ring, so it will be a unique experience for anyone that watches on Sunday. These two started in the wrestling business around the same time — early 2000s — and should see their histories collide in one of the night’s biggest matches.
A popular theory may be that Lesnar wins, given that WWE rarely has him defeated. However, with Styles’ booking for nearly two years, he can’t officially be counted out. So, let’s look at why he could win at the Fall Classic.
3. Phenomenal momentum
In WWE, a superstar’s momentum builds with every win they receive. As of now, AJ Styles has plenty, of course, as the WWE Champion. It’s his second reign, which came in somewhat surprising fashion when he topped Jinder Mahal on SmackDown Live in the United Kingdom. WWE rarely pulls off surprises overseas, so it was an intriguing development — especially with Survivor Series so close.
Now that we’re past Goldberg, if someone beats Lesnar, it will be a superstar with momentum and star power. Someone who may be believable, whether it’s from the wrestling or physical standpoint. Styles doesn’t fit the latter, but surely the former.
With the recent title change, maybe WWE feels there’s enough reason to give the Phenomenal One a win at Survivor Series. It wouldn’t look great for him to fall just two weeks later, so he can be booked to go over. This has no chance of ending clean, but never say never, right?
This win pushes the narrative that Styles is dangerous and a wrestling force to be reckoned with on SmackDown Live. That should give him enough room to enter WrestleMania 34 as the WWE Champion and carry on from there — potentially against Shinsuke Nakamura.
