22. Survivor Series 2004
There are plenty of solid matches on the 2004 Survivor Series card but there are just some very disappointing ones in there that ultimately kept this show’s ranking out in the bottom third of this list.
The night got off to a great start with a Fatal 4-Way Match for the Cruiserweight Championship as champion Spike Dudley took on Rey Mysterio, Billy Kidman and Chavo Guerrero. This was a very fun and entertaining bout that was just right in terms of the pace and the length of the match. Spike retained the title but everyone got a chance to shine in this match. Great start.
The good times continued with an underrated Intercontinental Championship bout between Shelton Benjamin and Christian. Again, these guys got some time to work and it was a great showcase for both guys. Both were very athletic and worked a couple of different styles here and it worked very well as Benjamin retained.
Things slowed down a bit after that. One would think that a match called Team Guerrero vs. Team Angle would be amazing. But it wasn’t. I’m not saying that it was terrible but they didn’t get a lot of time and the work was just average. Eddie Guerrero, Big Show and John Cena were the survivors here. But at least The Undertaker and Heidenreich went longer than that match did. If that sounds sarcastic, it’s because it is. What a boring match that was.
Lita and Trish Stratus were battling for the Women’s Championship and you would think they’d get some time on a pay-per-view. Nope. They got a minute and a half and a DQ finish. At least Vince would make it up to them soon after with their amazing main event on Monday Night RAW. JBL then beat Orlando Jordan. Moving on.
The main event of the night was able to salvage the show to some degree as Team Orton took on Team Triple H. Maven and Snitsky looked a little out of place but at least they addressed that. The other six in the match were Orton, Chris Benoit, Chris Jericho, Triple H, Batista and Edge. That’s a lot of star power there and they all looked good here. Orton was the sole survivor in the match after beating both Edge and Triple H at the end.
