Seahawks doomed with Kam Chancellor likely out for the year?
One week after losing Richard Sherman for the season, the Seattle Seahawks will be without All-Pro strong safety Kam Chancellor for the rest of the year with a neck injury.
Injuries are beginning to mount for Pete Carroll and the Seattle Seahawks. The Seahawks are already dealing with injuries to Richard Sherman, Cliff Avrill and Earl Thomas, and now Kam Chancellor is expected to be placed on injured reserve, ending his season.
The news was first reported by Mike Garofalo of the NFL Network and later confirmed by ESPN. Chancellor injured his neck on the final possession of last week’s win against the Arizona Cardinals and has been held out of practice this week with what Carroll said were neck stingers.
The injury will keep him out for the rest of the year and the playoffs should the Seahawks get there. However, the injury isn’t believed to be career-threatening and Chancellor is fully committed and expecting to play in 2018.

The loss of Chancellor is a tough one for the Seahawks who lost fellow All-Pro Sherman to an Achilles injury last game as well. The sliver of good news for Seattle is that Thomas is expected to return to the lineup for this week’s game against the Atlanta Falcons.
Seattle is hanging on to the sixth and final playoff spot in the NFC with six wins but facing Matt Ryan, Julio Jones and the Falcons will present a significant challenge on Monday night, especially with Atlanta trailing Seattle in the playoff standings.

Playing without Sherman was already going to be an uphill battle, but playing without Sherman and Chancellor will make the quest for a playoff spot that much more difficult. All good teams have to deal with injuries to key players every year, but the compounding nature of these injuries and considering they are in the same position grouping, Seattle will have to hope some reserves, especially Bradley McDougald, who will start in place of Chancellor has to step up and fill his shoes as best he can.
If the Seahawks miss the playoffs, it’ll be as a result of the Legion of Boom dooming their chances with injuries derailing what could have been another run at a Super Bowl.
