Scott Frost says no deal with Nebraska is close
By Jack Crosby
Scott Frost may eventually become the Nebraska head coach, but for right now, he’s shooting down that anything is even close.
We’re headed for another fun coaching carousel this college football offseason, and one of the hot topics will be whether or not UCF head coach Scott Frost will return home to save the Nebraska program. In two years, Frost has turned the UCF program into an undefeated powerhouse when not long ago they were an 0-12 team, while at the same time, Nebraska just can’t seem to get anything right under current coach Mike Riley.
On Friday night, the speculation of Frost to Lincoln went into overdrive for a bit, when a report from Lars Anderson of Bleacher Report noted that a lucrative deal between the two sides was close. Even though Riley has yet to be shown the door as the Cornhuskers head coach, Nebraska was all ready to ink the man they believe can clean up the mess.
Well, on Saturday, after UCF remained unbeaten on the season with a throttling of Temple, Frost was asked about the report. Of course, as you may imagine, he shot the whole thing down as he is trying to prepare his team for a potential New Year’s Six berth as the season comes to a close.
Now, does this mean there’s no chance of Frost going to Nebraska? Absolutely not. Does this mean he’s had no contact with his alma mater about eventually taking the job? Again — absolutely not. All Frost is shooting down here is that he’s already agreed to terms of a deal before this season even comes to a close.
The fact of the matter is that there’s a very good chance he will be headed back to Lincoln officially in a few weeks, once the season is over for both teams. But for now, whenever Frost is pegged about the opportunity, of course he’s not going to confirm anything, especially with the amazing season his Knights team has had in remaining undefeated.
