NFL lines, Week 12: 5 best bets

You know what? I’m done with you, Buffalo Bills. Here are my five best bets against the spread in the NFL for Week 12. Here’s to getting back on track.

Not the results we would have hoped for in Week 11. My best bets only got us 2-3. I’m 29-24-2 on the season, not where I want to be. While I have had success with the Cincinnati Bengals the last two weeks and was wise to swallow the points versus the Washington Redskins, I’m so mad at Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott.

Starting Nathan Peterman at quarterback was the worst idea ever. To be fair, when this post was due, I thought Tyrod Taylor was going to be the starter against a semi-concussed Philip Rivers. Well, the Los Angeles Chargers are laughing now, as they picked off Peterman five times in the first half in a rout. You can’t make this sort of coaching madness up.

Also not coming through for me were Blaine Gabbert and the Arizona Cardinals, as well as Jared Goff and the Los Angeles Rams. A year ago, picking a team quarterbacked by either Gabbert or Goff was crazy talk. For last week anyway, it still was. The NFL continues to amaze me.

Fortunately, I like a lot of the lines this week. There were many to choose from. So here’s to getting back to our winning ways. Here are the five best bets against the spread. All lines are by OddsShark.

San Francisco 49ers (+7) vs. Seattle Seahawks

This line could change maybe half a point or so after the Seattle Seahawks narrowly lost on Monday Night Football to the Atlanta Falcons. Though the Seahawks are clearly the better team, I’m taking the 49ers getting seven points in this one.

San Francisco may only have one win on the year, but the 49ers have been largely competitive in most games. The 49ers are coming off their bye and this one is at Levi’s Stadium. Keep in mind that this will be presumably the first start of Jimmy Garoppolo’s 49ers career. There are a lot of unknowns there with how he’ll be as a franchise quarterback in San Francisco.

Seattle is coming off a tough loss where the porous offensive line and secondary got beat up by a physical Atlanta team. The Seahawks are playing a short week on the road versus a division rival. If Monday night taught us anything, it is that the Legion of Boom in Seattle might be a thing of the past.

No, the 49ers don’t have anywhere close to the personnel of the Falcons, but they are coached by Atlanta’s former offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan. Look for San Francisco to slice and dice an undermanned Seattle secondary. Seattle will still find a way to win because Russell Wilson is a freak of nature, but I’m taking the 49ers getting points all day long.
