The SEC fines the Auburn Tigers after their fans rushed the field following their tremendous Iron Bowl Victory over No. 1 Alabama.

The Auburn Tigers knocked off yet another No. 1 team on Saturday. This team was the Alabama Crimson Tide inside Jordan-Hare Stadium. Auburn now advances to the SEC Championship Game on Dec. 2, so yes, this game was indeed not only for bragging rights, but for an SEC title game berth for the winner and a possible trip to the College Football Playoff.

Let’s face it, 100 percent of all schools would celebrate on the field with their fans after an astonishing victory like that. Especially beating the No. 1 team at home, there was no question if this would happen.

However, we all know by now that when fans rush the field, there are consequences for the school. With Auburn fans rushing the field vigorously following the win, the SEC fined the school to the tune of $250,000. SEC commissioner Greg Sankey had this to provide.

"“Fans are expected to remain in the stands and avoid the safety concerns associated with rushing on to the playing field. We want exciting experiences around SEC games, but also seek to maintain a safe environment for student-athletes, coaches, spectators and officials.”"

An interesting note, Auburn was also fined in their “kick-six” victory in 2013 for this same exact reason. Although in Auburn’s eyes — and possibly the country’s — this celebration was absolutely worth it. Not only is winning a game to clinch a conference title spot good enough, but beating the No. 1 team at home on top of that is incredible.

There were so many things to celebrate on the field that made the green bills much worth it. This game definitely gave the Tigers a major boost for their resume heading into the SEC title game as they now have a shot at becoming the first two-loss team to head to the Playoff.
