The Arizona State Sun Devils are looking for a new head football coach after firing Todd Graham on Sunday morning.

Arizona State isn’t happy with the direction of its football program, and it made that apparent with the firing of long-time head coach Todd Graham. Graham had been with the program over the past six seasons and had a winning record of 46-31.

However, his overall track record wasn’t enough to save his job after the Sun Devils struggled in 2017, going 7-5 and 6-3 in the Pac-12. It’s unclear who will be coaching Arizona State in whatever bowl game it ends up in.

Firing Graham isn’t a big surprise, but it also begs the question of what should be expected of the Sun Devils moving forward? The school is best known for its baseball prowess, while the football team has lagged behind since the days of Pat Tillman and Jake Plummer. Arizona State has never won a national championship and hasn’t won the Pac-12 outright since 1986.

The losses that may have sunk Graham this year came early in the season, when the Sun Devils dropped decisions to both the Texas Tech Red Raiders and the San Diego State Aztecs. Graham had a signature win over the formerly No. 5 Washington Huskies, but couldn’t beat the USC Trojans or UCLA Bruins down the stretch. His tenure ended on a high note with wins over the Oregon State Beavers and Arizona Wildcats.
