Find out where you can catch a presentation of the holiday classic Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, on TV or online here.

The onslaught of Christmas and Holiday specials continues this week. CBS will air the first presentation of its Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer Christmas show for the first time this season on Tuesday.

This animated presentation of the widely loved and classic Christmas story first appeared on TV in 1964. The fact that it is still around speaks volumes for its broad appeal. As old (or shall we say classic) as this presentation of the Rudolph story is, the song inspiring it is actually even older. The well-known Christmas carol was first recorded in 1949.

The story of Rudolph is one that is instantly relatable but made very funny, and linked to the holiday with a certain degree of absurdity. Rudolph, born with a nose somehow closer to a lightbulb (or maybe spotlight) than average is doomed to always being an outsider. The glaring obviousness of his nose do not even give him the benefit of hiding in plain sight. However, on a dark and stormy night (that just happened to be Christmas Eve) Rudolph learned that the deformity (sorry!) that made him an outcast to the other reindeer could be an important asset. Once they saw how Rudolph’s, let’s say unique, nose could be used, they were much more willing to accept him into their ranks, and even celebrate.
