Sam Darnold

Quarterback, USC

One of the biggest surprises of the 2017 NFL season has been how bad the New York Giants have been. Sure, they lost a bunch of their offensive weapons early in the year, but nobody could have predicted they would win only two games through the first 12 weeks. Their schedule does not get much easier the rest of the way, which means they could seriously wind up picking this early in round one.

That is some pretty crazy stuff, considering some believed this would be a Super Bowl contender heading into the season. Veteran quarterback Eli Manning is having a tough season, and while it is likely due to bad protection and lack of weapons, it also is because he is getting up there in age. The Giants need to start thinking about the future without him, and picking a quarterback in round one is the way to go.

This franchise hardly ever drafts this high, so grabbing a guy like Sam Darnold could set them up for their next era of great quarterback play. Manning has brought the Giants two rings, but it is clear he is on the final holes of his NFL careers. Look for New York to draft Darnold, though the pick is all dependent on whether or not he decides to declare for the NFL Draft, as he does have two years of eligibility remaining.
