Manchester City welcome Southampton to the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday. Each are coming off wins in the Premier League over the weekend and the team that looked most dangerous was Southampton. Manchester City still have yet to lose in the Premier League and sit comfortably in first. Southampton sit 10th in the league after beating Everton 4-1 over the weekend.

Southampton finally showed some explosiveness offensively against Everton over the weekend. They dominated possession and Charlie Austin was the offensive dynamo that scored a brace in the 4-1 win. Even though the win was against Everton, the worst defensive team in the Premier League, they showed doses of creativity and movement that haven’t been present for much of the season thus far. It gives them a fighting chance against City if they’re able to channel that quality.

Manchester City won one of those games that Premier League champions usually win. A 2-1 win at Huddersfield was a win that the Manchester City of last season wouldn’t have been able to pull off. They didn’t have the dynamic offensive flow that they usually display and the game was scrappier and less open than Pep Guardiola would have liked, but his side came through with a win. That experience will serve them well against Southampton, who may try and scrap things up as well.
