Tiger Woods returned yesterday to competitive golf at the Hero World Challenge, and is off to a good start.

After almost a year away from the game, Tiger Woods returned to competitive golf yesterday. People will say that this is not a real tournament since it is only 18 players, but it is 18 of the best players in the world, including Justin Thomas, Jordan Speith and Dustin Johnson. Regardless, Tiger Woods is back to playing competitive golf, and things are looking up.

The expectations for Tiger’s first round were all over the place. You had people saying that he was going to go under, over, or just completely blow up. When he struck that first drive, it was as if nothing had changed. Tiger’s first round was better than a lot of people expected. He fired a 3-under 69 while bogeying two of the par 5’s. So if you think about it, that score should have been much better. One of the things that Woods has always struggled with is the control with a driver. His chipping was a problem in that round as well. Continuously, he was around the green, and on both of the par 5’s he had chances to make great numbers, yet because of his chipping, he was not able to make par. After watching yesterday, he looks like a completely different golfer.

Yesterday, he hit 7-of-13 fairways and 12-of-18 greens. So that round could have been that much better. Today, he has gotten off to another fast start. He is 3-under through five holes, and does not look he is going to slow down. It is really hard to temper your excitement when he is playing as well as he is. As an avid fan of golf, Tiger Woods is back and playing well, and life in the game of golf can not get any better.
