No, really. After all the mess that they have been in, the Tennessee Volunteers have an easy solution to their problems. They can bring Lane Kiffin back to Knoxville to restore order.

By now, you know how much chaos has occurred in Knoxville. The Tennessee Volunteers still don’t have a head coach, despite spinning the proverbial candidate wheel several times. Solutions to the problems have been hard to come by. It’s not even entirely certain that their next hire will rid UT of all their problems, either.

On the flip side, though, there is one way the Volunteers can stop stoking the flames. Hire Lane Kiffin. No, really. The Vols can quell the storm a little bit if they rehire former head coach Lane Kiffin. There would be no way you could believe that to be reasonable a few years ago. However, these are the times we live in now. Here are a few reasons why hiring Kiffin could be what helps Tennessee out the most.

Kiffin has learned a lot from his first go-around

It’s true that Kiffin didn’t have the best time last time he was in Knoxville. That might be putting it mildly. Kiffin’s abrupt exit from Knoxville caused fans to hate him to obscene levels. But it’s possible that Lane was far too young and in over his head then. Now, eight years later, it’s arguable that he’s a different man.

Kiffin improved as a coach since last time

While the relationship was tenuous, Kiffin was pretty successful as offensive coordinator for the Alabama Crimson Tide. In his first year with Florida Atlantic, Kiffin has also enjoyed a bounty of success. FAU was in the Top 10 in scoring this season, having averaged 39.8 points per game on offense. Under Lane, running back Devin Singletary shined. Singletary rushed for 1,632 yards and scored 26 touchdowns entering the Conference USA Championship. Gregory Howell Jr. and quarterback Jason Driskel fared well, too.

Those types of offensive numbers are definitely gaudy. He produced a pretty sound attack in Tuscaloosa, too, so it’s not just the level of competition. That could translate to success in Knoxville.

His attitude could help the mood in Knoxville

There has been a lot of tension going around in Knoxville lately. It’s easy to see from inside the town and out. Lane, though, could bring a presence to town that can inject some sense of humor. Seriously. You’ve probably seen his Twitter account and read how he doesn’t take himself so seriously. Humor never hurt anybody. And right now, the Vol faithful could use a few jokes cracked, right?
