Making the College Football Playoff case: Alabama or Ohio State?
The case for the Alabama Crimson Tide
Okay, yes, Alabama didn’t really have any quality wins. Sure, their best win was probably on the road against four-loss Mississippi State, or at home against the LSU Tigers. And yes, they lost the Iron Bowl. The win over Florida State is a lot less glamorous than anybody thought it would be. Nobody thought that The Greatest Opener Ever™ would devolve into a game between a title contender and a 6-6 squad who’s heading to Shreveport. When you look carefully, their best win in nonconference is against… Mountain West Conference runner-up, Fresno State?
But, I mean, let’s be real here: You know how good Alabama is. You know what their best is. You know their best is likely better than everyone else’s best. Jalen Hurts has ice in his veins, and proved that against Mississippi State. What’s a deficit to that man? He almost single-handedly won the National Championship for Alabama last year, after all. They took a loss to Auburn at Jordan-Hare, but what’s the shame in that? What’s the shame in losing to a team that beat two No. 1 squads this year?
No conference championship? No division championship? Hey, committee, that looks a bit awkward now, doesn’t it? You let in a team that didn’t have either of those things last year. You’ve already set the precedent last year. What do those things matter to you this year now for? Why are the rules constantly changing?
Let the Tide in, and you’ll see that your decision will pay off in spades. They’ll truck through everyone and win the whole dang thing, because they’re Alabama, and that’s all that matters.
