Texas A&M pulled out the big guns to get Jimbo Fisher, now to welcome him as well.

They say everything’s bigger in Texas. While in most places, a new college football coach arriving in town is nothing big, College Station says otherwise. Texas A&M rolled out the maroon carpet to welcome newly appointed head coach Jimbo Fisher on Sunday when he landed in College Station. Texas A&M’s band was on site as Fisher landed in College Station, playing school songs as Fisher strolled down the maroon carpet.

One of the many reasons Fisher accepted the Texas A&M job was the passion of the students, alumni and fan base. For that reason, the reception Fisher received in College Station was hardly surprising. If his massive, unbelievable contract is not an indication as to how important Fisher is already to the Aggies, this reception is. While many coaches have stepped off the jet to an empty crowd, Texas A&M wanted to ensure that wasn’t the case when coach Fisher arrived in College Station.

For the next few seasons, the songs of the Aggies’ band will become associated with fanfare, so the Aggie band wanted to familiarize coach Fisher with College Stations’ version of fanfare early on. The Aggies showed their impressive fan base early on, replacing usual silence with one of the most prestigious college bands in the country.

Thus far, everything about Fisher to Texas A&M has been huge. The news breaking? Huge. His 10-year, $75 million contract? Huge. His College Station welcome? Huge. If this trend continues, Fisher’s first-year at Texas A&M will be — well, huge. Although very few eyes were on Fisher’s literal arrival in Texas, that will hardly be the case soon. All eyes are on Fisher during his first season at Texas A&M after leaving a successful Florida State program.
