The Chicago Bears running back Tarik Cohen scored one of the craziest touchdowns of the season on a punt return.

It hasn’t been the best season for the Chicago Bears so far but on Sunday, they authored one of the highlights of the 2017 season so far. Rookie running back Tarik Cohen was back to return the punt and everything got crazy from there.

Sometimes in football, breaking some of the unwritten rules work out. As a punt returner, it’s not exactly the best idea to go backward once you have the ball in your hands. If the player doesn’t think he could advance the ball, it’s typically best to just fair catch and let the offense do their job. Not only that, turning your back to reverse field typically doesn’t end well. Cohen goes back a solid 20 yards and then turns his back on the defense and yet it all managed to work out for the best.

Plays like this have to frustrate Bears fans to some extent because Cohen is electric when he has the ball in his hands. He’s a threat to score from anywhere on the field and yet doesn’t see consistent touches in the offense. Seeing what he is capable of in the open field is a sight to behold. Once he got by the initial wave of defenders, he turned on the afterburners for the score.

The Bears lead the San Francisco 49ers at halftime of this game by a score of 14-9. As things stand right now, this incredible touchdown is the difference between a win and a loss for the Bears. Granted, this version of the 49ers is in the middle of a true rebuild. Seeing as how wins haven’t been very easy to come by this season, it would be a good victory to pull off.
