West Ham beat Chelsea 1-0 at the London Stadium on Saturday, Dec. 9. Here are all the highlights from the Premier League match.

There would be no late comeback this time. West Ham, after taking a 1-0 lead against big six opposition for the second match running, held on for their first victory of the David Moyes era against Chelsea at the London Stadium on Saturday.

The Hammers, in 19th place heading into the match with only two points from the last 21, were in desperate need of a result, and started the game accordingly, pressing Chelsea well in their defensive third and combining effectively on the ball.

They got their reward for an impressive start after only six minutes. Michail Antonio’s powerful running helped the home side win a throw in deep in Chelsea’s half, from which Pablo Zabaleta found Antonio, who played in Marko Arnautovic, who combined with Lanzini before finishing.

Chelsea, predictably, took control as the half wore on, and seemed on the brink of a breakthrough as the game approached the half hour mark. N’Golo Kante, Alvaro Morata and Tiemoue Bakoyoko all tested Adrian in the West Ham goal.

But West Ham defended well, and continued to pose a threat on the break thanks to Antonio’s running in behind and the support of Arnautovic, who’s come in for a lot criticism since his summer move but performed very well here.

Chelsea continued to dominate in the second half, but the Hammers proved difficult to break down, and Adrian didn’t have a significant save to make. Conte brought Willian, Pedro and Victor Moses off the bench, but they couldn’t force a breakthrough.

Moyes was an unpopular replacement for Slaven Bilic, and with good reason given some of his early results, but this was an indication he might still be capable of the managerial feats he performed during his decade-plus at Everton. Some good news for the Hammers at last.
