The Buffalo Bills and Indianapolis Colts are playing in a snowglobe in western New York, and it couldn’t be cooler.

Looking at this game on the schedule, there is nothing exciting about the Buffalo Bills and Indianapolis Colts. Buffalo is 6-6 but it appears it won’t make the postseason, while the 3-9 Colts leave everything to be desired.

However, the weather gods are giving us something to behold. In Buffalo, the snow is coming down every which way, blanketing New Era Field in what is expected to be a foot of snow by the end of the day. Buffalo had to hire fans to come to the stadium and dig the seats out at a rate of $11 per hour, and after this game, the Bills might have to do it again.

Buffalo always seems to have a game like this once per year. In the past, we’ve seen some wild playoff games affected by snow in that building, including a 1990 AFC Divisional round matchup with the Miami Dolphins. That day saw Jim Kelly outduel Dan Marino, with the Bills winning 44-34.

A few years later, the 1993 AFC Divisional playoffs had the Bills hosting the Los Angeles Raiders, a game also won by Kelly and Buffalo. While the snow was mostly plowed off the field, the game was played in temperatures hovering around zero.

Hopefully the Bills will be back in the postseason soon enough, but for now, we will have to settle for some wild weather in December for a team that has overachieved thus far this season.
