Carson Wentz tears ACL, done for season

The Philadelphia Eagles will be without star quarterback Carson Wentz for the rest of the season after he tore the ACL in his left knee on Sunday.

The Eagles won the NFC East on Sunday, beating the Los Angeles Rams in a wild 37-35 affair. However, Philadelphia lost far more than it won with the news that Carson Wentz has torn the ACL in his left knee, putting him on the shelf for the remainder of the season.

Without Wentz, the Eagles look like a good team without the opportunity to win the Super Bowl as they could have with their second-year stud. Philadelphia is 11-2 and while backup quarterback Nick Foles could win a few more games to secure a top seed going into the NFC playoffs, it’s hard to see him winning consistently in January.

Wentz leaves behind a 2017 campaign that vaulted him into superstardom. The former North Dakota State product leads the league with 33 touchdown passes, taking advantage of a revamped offense which includes Alshon Jeffery, Nelson Agholor and Torrey Smith. Philadelphia certainly maintains a bright future provided Wentz makes a full recovery, but it’s a crippling loss to a team that was a favorite to reach the Super Bowl for just the third time in franchise history.

Going forward, the Eagles have a few divisional battles with the Dallas Cowboys and Washington Redskins, along with a Christmas night contest against the Oakland Raiders. Even with Foles under center, the Eagles are going to be favored in all three of those games and rightfully so, with only the Dallas contest being away from Lincoln Financial Field.
