2018 NFL Mock Draft: Josh Rosen, Sam Darnold lead the way
By Brad Weiss
Thanks to the fact that the Houston Texans are terrible this season, the Cleveland Browns will likely be picking in the top-10 picks in 2018. Last year, the Browns traded one of their first round picks to the Texans so they could move up and select Deshaun Watson. Watson was terrific in his limited time playing before being injured, so it looks like the Texans got the better of the deal up until this point in time.
When it comes time to draft their second first rounder next year, the Browns should look to get better on the defensive side of the ball. In 2017, the Browns selected Jabrill Peppers in the first round, as they tried to add some depth to their secondary. In 2018, they should look to draft another safety, with this pick being Derwin James from Florida State. Selecting James would give the Browns two solid young safeties to build the secondary around.
James is a fantastic talent, and is one of the more versatile defensive backs in this draft class. He has the ability to not only play safety, but also cornerback, and he has been used in special teams as a return man. If the Browns hope to become an actual relevant franchise, they have to bring in players like James, who has the talent to help them in so many ways. They have a new general manager, so let’s hope he can push the right buttons in April.
