MLB Trade Rumors: Ian Kinsler headed to Angels

The 2017 Winter Meetings have become quite interesting with reports of the Angels acquiring the Tigers’ Ian Kinsler.

The 2017 MLB Winter Meetings has become quite hot in the land of Mickey Mouse with the news that Detroit Tigers second baseman Ian Kinsler is moving from Mowtown to the Magic Kingdom.

According to Ken Rosenthal, the Tigers have agreed to trade Kinsler to the Los Angeles Angels. Word hasn’t come out yet who the Tigers will get back in return but for a talent like Kinsler, but Mike Trout possibly heading to Detroit is not out of the question, though we’ll have to wait and see on that front.

Kinsler has a no-trade clause, but according to many insiders at the meetings, that didn’t stop teams from making a bid for the star. Along with the Angels, the New York Yankees, LA Dodgers, New York Mets, Milwaukee Brewers, Oakland Athletics, San Diego Padres, San Francisco Giants, Tampa Bay Rays, and the Toronto Blue Jays were all interested in acquiring Kinsler’s services.

All of the teams mentioned above are in need of a 2nd baseman, but it appeared that the Angels won over the ear of the Tigers front office. According to Kinsler’s agent, Jay Franklin, Kinsler would require a contract extension before waving his no-trade clause, which makes a ton of sense because he’s in the final year of his contract and doesn’t want to risk being moved again during the 2018 season.

So what does it mean for the Angels? Well, assuming that Trout doesn’t get traded to the Tigers in exchange for Kinsler, this is a wonderful move for a franchise that has slipped a bit the past few seasons. The Angels are looking to get back to the playoffs next season and Kinsler will go a long way into making that a reality in Anaheim.
