Las Vegas Bowl Odds And Prediction

Bowl season is finally upon us! With the Army-Navy game last weekend, we didn’t even have to go a whole week without a game! Next up is the Las Vegas Bowl!

More from College Football Odds

The bowl season kicks off with six games tomorrow. It’s almost like a whole football Saturday! I will not make a pick for the Air Force Reserve Celebration Bowl. I wouldn’t be doing you any justice there. The only 1-AA teams I have watched are North Dakota State and Youngstown State. I wouldn’t be making an educated pick.

However, for the rest of the bowls, you will get my picks against the spread and point wagers just like I did all season long. I had a solid regular season, but I can make it look a whole lot better with a strong bowl season!

(25)Boise State vs. Oregon(-7.5) at Las Vegas, NV(5):

(25)Boise State 10-3, 7-1 (1st Mountain West):

Wins: vs. Troy(24,13), vs. New Mexico(28-14), at BYU(24-7), at San Diego State(31-14), vs. Wyoming(24-14), at Utah State(41-14), vs. Nevada(41-14), at Colorado State(59-52), vs. Air Force(44-19), vs. (25)Fresno State(17-14)

Losses: at Washington State(44-47), vs. Virginia(23-42), at Fresno State(17-28)

Boise really took off with the emergence of Alexander Mattison as the starter beginning in October. The integration of Montell Cozart into the offense was the turning point for Boise. They only lost once after October 1st. They exacted revenge the very next week in the conference championship game.

Record vs. bowl teams: 6-3

Oregon 7-5, 4-5(t7th Pac 12):

Wins: vs. Southern Utah(77-21), vs. Nebraska(42-35), at Wyoming(49-13), vs. California(45-24), vs. Utah(41-20), vs. Arizona(48-28), vs. Oregon State(69-10)

Losses: at Arizona State(35-37), vs. (11)Washington State(10-33), at (23)Stanford(7-49), at UCLA(14-31), at (12)Washington(3-38)

Oregon can only wonder what could have been if Justin Herbert had been healthy all year. The Ducks were 1-4 without Herbert, and didn’t score more than 20 points in a game without him. As important as Royce Freeman is to the Ducks, Herbert is what makes this offense go. Even with Freeman sitting, I see the Ducks offense putting on a strong performance here.

Record vs. bowl teams: 3-5

Prediction:

Everything about this favors Boise State. Oregon’s defense has never been that strong of a unit, but this is a different team with Herbert in there. Enough different that it could change the course of this game. Kani Benoit ran for 573 yards on only 80 carries this year, so I don’t see Oregon missing much without Freeman. Yes, he was very important to this team and the program, but in the grand scheme of things, Oregon can plug and play at running back.

Pick: Oregon
