2018 NFL Mock Draft: Browns, Giants nab QBs
By Brad Weiss
Coming into the 2017 NFL season, many expected the New York Giants to vie for one of the top spots in the NFC. In 2016, the Giants rode a stellar defense to the Wildcard Round, though they were easily done in by the Green Bay Packers. Injuries, and ineffective coaching doomed the Giants from the start in 2017, and the team finds themselves surprisingly picking towards the top of the first round next April.
Throughout the season, the Giants fired both their head coach, Ben McAdoo, and general manager, Jerry Reese, so the draft room is going to look very different in 2018. Quarterback Eli Manning was benched in favor of Geno Smith a few weeks back, ending his 210 consecutive start streak. He is starting to get up there in age, and it may be time for the Giants to start thinking about life after No. 10, who has brought the franchise two rings.
Last year, the Giants drafted Cal quarterback Davis Webb, but he has yet to sniff the field in 2017. While some believe he has the talent to be a franchise quarterback, it is likely the Giants will capitalize on such an early pick and select one of these elite college guys. That player could wind up being Sam Darnold, who has been tremendous during his time at USC, and has the arm strength to make all the throws at the NFL level.
