Oklahoma Football Recruiting: Sooners announce early signing day class

The Oklahoma Sooners announce their early National Signing Day class for 2018.
The Oklahoma Sooners are gearing up for the College Football Playoff. Baker Mayfield is coming off a Heisman Trophy victory and things are flying high under the first year of Lincoln Riley’s watch in Norman.
He also will have a chance to make a big statement on Wednesday, when early National Signing Day occurs. It’s the first time that it is happening in college football, as the regular National Signing Day will still take place in February.
Nonetheless, this will give programs the opportunity to get an early start on locking their classes in. Knowing that certain commits are officially locked in will allow programs to be able to move onto getting the rest of the class locked in when February rolls around.
Right now, the Sooners sit just inside the top 10 at eighth overall for their class, according to 247sports. They have 20 commits at the moment and getting as many of those locked in as possible will really give them a momentum boost going into February.
It’s clear the areas that the Sooners are targeting with this class. It is defensive end heavy on both the strong side and weak side. They have three defensive end commits right at the top of their 2018 class.

Ronnie Perkins, Ron Tatum and Jalen Redmond highlight a dynamic trio that could soon be wreaking havoc in the backfield on a weekly basis for the Sooners. 6-foot-7 offensive tackle Brey Walker is yet another monster in the fold that could soon be an Orlando Brown replacement for the program. This is a class that is filled with talent in the trenches and one that should have a huge impact in keeping the program at the top of the conference and as a playoff contender.
