We’re getting ready to see the Washington Redskins host the Denver Broncos on Sunday afternoon. Which team will prevail in this contest?

It’s been a highly disappointing year for both the Denver Broncos and Washington Redskins. Both clubs sported winning records in 2016 despite missing the playoffs. But each were aggressive in free agency this offseason and hoped to make a move in their respective divisions.

But things did not go as planned. And for the second straight year, these clubs will miss out on the postseason.

Still, there’s a game to play this Sunday at FedExField and the ‘Skins still have a shot at a .500 campaign. The Broncos may go with quarterback Brock Osweiler following a strong relief effort last week at Indianapolis. But there’s also a possibility that young Paxton Lynch could get the nod. On the other hand, Kirk Cousins makes his 47th consecutive start for Jay Gruden’s squad. So what can we look forward to this weekend?

Odds

Line: Redskins (-3.5)

Over/Under: 40.5

It’s a pair of sub-.500 teams separated by one game. Hence it is no surprise that Gruden’s club is a 3.5-point favorite at home against the 5-9 Broncos (courtesy of OddsShark). Given the points allowed by both teams this season, the over (40.5) looks extremely inviting.

Last Thursday night, the Denver Broncos ended an eight-game road losing streak with a victory at Indianapolis. Now they head to the nation’s capital to take on a Washington Redskins’ club that has been as unpredictable as any in the league. Despite their impressive rankings, Vance Joseph’s club has given up its share of scores through the air. That could prove to be the difference in the game, with Osweiler making his presence felt as well.

Pick: Redskins 24, Broncos 21
