Is Sunday Night Football on tonight, December 24th?

It’s another Christmas Eve full of football, but is Sunday Night Football on tonight?

Sunday was a Christmas Eve packed with as much football as we could have hoped for. But if you’re hoping to have football on as you put the cookies out for Santa (who is actually Andy Reid but I don’t want to do this here), you’re going to be sorely mistaken.

There will be no Sunday Night Football tonight. If you flip your television over to NBC, you’ll find that It’s A Wonderful Life is being shown instead. This is a tradition that dates back quite a while so it’s not like SNF got bumped for anything it wouldn’t have been bumped for. There was a game on Saturday night and there will be a game on NBC on Christmas Day — Sunday Night Football is on twice this weekend just not on Sunday night.

Something else that was a tradition is Dick Enberg. I never got a chance to sit down and write a long piece remembering him or telling everyone that he was the voice of my childhood. He was the voice of everyone’s childhood, no matter what sport you watched and regardless of the decade. There are times where I find myself going through old YouTube clips of NFL games from the 90s, and remembering where I was watching it and hearing Dick’s  voice.

So instead of this being some post where you get some basic information, let’s take a moment while Sunday Night Football isn’t on to go back and revisit some Dick Enberg calls, just to hear his voice.

If you have a Dick Enberg memory, please share it. For instance, when I heard the news that he had died, my mind instantly went to 1998 when my parents surprised me with a Playstation. One of the games was Gameday ’99, with Dick Enberg commentating the first football video game I ever played. Not Madden, Enberg.

Also, if you’re wondering when Sunday Night Football will be back, it returns next week. The game that will be flexed into the timeslot has yet to be announced but there’s a decent chance it’s the Falcons-Panthers game which will decide final seeding in the NFC Wild Card.
