Somehow T.Y. Hilton and Jonathan Joseph didn’t get ejected for this fight (Video)

In a meaningless Week 17 game, T.Y. Hilton and Jonathan Joseph threw a bunch of punches but somehow stayed in the game.

The old cliche of always fighting until the end was taken a little bit too literally in Indianapolis on Sunday. In a meaningless game, T.Y. Hilton and Jonathan Joseph let whatever beef that was boiling between them to bubble over into a fight.

In the third quarter of a ‘sprint to the finish’ game, Hilton and Joseph threw down but somehow weren’t ejected for throwing multiple punches at each other.

Players have been ejected for far less than this. Earlier this season, Jalen Ramsey was ejected for getting bodyslammed by A.J. Green and we all remember the fight between Michael Crabtree and Aqib Talib that resulted in suspensions.

Hilton and Joseph going a few rounds wasn’t quite to the level of the brawls we’ve seen this year but it was enough to warrant ejections. All it takes is one swing by a player for an ejection to be considered, and here we had more than a few.

Aside from the legality of the matter, context matters. It’s Week 17 and the Colts-Texans game is anything but relevant. The idea that two very good players are getting into a beef like this should be enough to tell them to hit the showers and let cooler heads prevail.

Of all the issues that the NFL has, this just can’t happen. It’s a bad look for a league already struggling with plenty of image issues. Officiating has come under intense scrutiny this season — whether it be for not knowing what a catch is or failing to control games — and the fact that Hilton and Joseph weren’t tossed is a little perplexing.
