Anderson Cooper and new co-host Andy Cohen will be hosting CNN’s New Year’s Eve Live 2018, and you can watch the stream online. The New Year’s production begins at 8:00 p.m. ET. This will be the first year since 2007 where CNN’s New Year’s Eve Live does not include now former co-host comedian Kathy Griffin. Cooper has hosted New Year’s Eve Live on CNN since 2003, with Griffin as co-host for 10 years.
This year, Cooper’s pal and Bravo host Andy Cohen will join CNN’s festivities in what could be a permanent yearly role based on ratings. The 2016 edition of New Year’s Eve Live set a new viewership record for CNN, with the No. 1 spot for a cable program for the 11:00 p.m. – 12:30 a.m time slot. According to Adweek, New Year’s Eve Live 2016 scored 3.04 million total viewers for CNN, ahead of competing Fox News Channel’s 2.75 million total viewers for All-American New Year. CNN also scored 1.29 million viewers in the 25-54 demographic with Fox News Channel getting 734,000 in comparison.
CNN’s New Years Eve Live will be going head-to-head against Fox News Channel’s All-American New Year again this year with Lisa Kennedy Montgomery and Jesse Watters hosting the competition. Fox News Channel appears to see this year as an opportunity to potentially dethrone CNN’s hold on New Year’s Eve with Griffin gone and a fresh duo of their own.

This year will be a true ratings test for CNN’s New Year’s Eve Live without co-host Kathy Griffin, a 10-year staple for the program. They can rise, stagnate, or decline, depending on if viewers stay after the initial curiosity of seeing how Cooper and Cohen handle hosting duties wears off.
