The Cleveland Browns should make a splash and draft Oklahoma Sooners quarterback Baker Mayfield with the top pick in the NFL Draft.

What a time to be alive for the Cleveland Browns. They’re coming off the worst finish in franchise history, the second 0-16 season in NFL history and are moving forward with a coach that has a 1-31 record in his first two seasons. Yet, the team has acquired so much talent over recent drafts that there still may be a cause for optimism should any of them develop into their full potential.

However, the Browns are destined to remain in a boat without a paddle until they finally land their franchise quarterback. That man should be none other than Heisman Trophy winner, Baker Mayfield.

Now, the Browns just drafted DeShone Kizer this past year. However, with the first and fourth overall picks in the draft, it would be a shock if they didn’t take a quarterback to build around.

While everyone waits on what some of the quarterbacks for this class are going to do, taking Mayfield would make the Browns must-watch entertainment right away. For those that still have nightmares of Johnny Football circling in their heads, Mayfield is a controlled chaos and the guy that Browns fans were hoping they were landing with Manziel.

He has the bravado and is a proven winner. He’s shot his way up the draft boards and quite frankly is the most intriguing quarterback prospect in this class. Josh Rosen and Sam Darnold have ruled the discussion, but Mayfield’s an incredible talent that can’t be ignored.

His ability to spot the ball and make plays out nothing is magician-like. He’s mobile and has the heart of a lion. The Browns need a guy that can make something out of nothing in the worst way possible.

In Sunday’s finale against Pittsburgh, Corey Coleman’s dropped pass that might have pushed them closer to their first win, ended up being the defining image of their season. Changing that culture with a top prospect with a penchant for making things happen out of nothing is the start Cleveland needs.

It’s certainly a risk taking a quarterback high in the draft and there are no guarantees at the professional level. However, the Browns have some house money here by virtue of having the No. 4 overall pick as well to play with or parlay into more picks.

Eventually, a risk is going to pay off and the Browns will land a quarterback. Taking a Heisman winner with plenty of personality and the will to win can be the building block to maybe a bright future.
