Zion Williamson is the talk of the recruiting trail again. Here is all the notable college basketball recruiting news you need to know.

It has been a mostly quiet week in college basketball recruiting with just one notable commitment and a couple scheduled visits. That was until we got some news about high school phenom Zion Williamson and his looming decision.

Recruiting is a funny thing. Everyone hypes up a life-altering decision by a high school kid. We talk about it constantly up until the actual decision. We talk about the decision for a day or two, and then it’s on to the next kid. Totally leaving behind an incredible decision from a 17 or 18-year-old kid in the search for the next one.

Zion Williamson says announcement is coming soon

Social Media phenom Zion Williamson said that his decision is coming “soon.” In his blog on USA Today, Williamson said “I honestly feel like I’ll be making a decision soon. I’ve been really thinking here lately about the pros and cons and I just feel like the time is coming.”

Williamson is deciding between schools such as Kentucky, Clemson, Kansas, UNC, and South Carolina. Though, it is believed that Kentucky and Clemson are the frontrunners for the 6-foot-5 senior. To expand on that thought, Williamson says “I’ve been watching all of the schools recruiting me on TV a lot and I watch the players in my position and how the schools use those guys; just doing my homework on everybody.”

Spartanburg Day, Williamson’s high school, will play a nationally televised game on Jan. 13 against Chino Hills high school.

Former USC commit schedules two visits

Taeshon Cherry, the recent decommit from USC, scheduled two visits last week. The first being a trip to fellow Pac-12 team Arizona State on Jan. 11. The other will be down in College Station, to see Texas A&M on Jan. 31.

Since decommitting from USC on Dec. 23, Cherry has received 16 scholarship offers. The revered player does not have to sign until April, but it looks as if he is taking no time off the recruiting trail.

Speculation about Cherry and possible FBI scandal involvement exists. Former USC assistant Tony Bland was fired due to allegations of bribery. Some believe this is the reason for Cherry’s departure from USC and question his eligibility

. Until something concrete surfaces, it seems like the senior will move on normally.

Georgia adds another for 2019

Elias King, a 6-foot-7 forward, announce his decision to commit to Georgia last week. This comes just a week after one of the top players in 2019, Ashton Hagans, announced that he would be playing at Georgia.

King goes to school at Shiloh High School in Georgia, and stated that the proximity to home played a role in his decision. The Bulldogs were the choice over schools such as Florida State, Georgia Tech, Miami, USC, and Virginia Tech.
