3. Southampton

Charlie Austin has been decent for the Saints this season, tallying six goals, but aside from him, Southampton lack a real goalscoring threat. Shane Long isn’t cutting it and Manolo Gabbiadini has struggled since an impressive first few months in the Premier League. Southampton need another, more prolific goalscorer. Sturridge fits the bill perfectly. Southampton play solid defense and like to counter attack, and with his pace Sturridge could fit well in that type of system.

Southampton and Liverpool are also not strangers on the transfer market with the two clubs conducting a lot of business over the years. Most recently, Liverpool spent £75 million for Southampton’s prized defender Virgil van Dijk.

Southampton have money; that’s very clear after the sale of van Djik. The only issue will be luring him to the club. The Saints haven’t had the easiest of campaigns and are barely above the drop zone. A goalscorer like Sturridge would seriously help the club avoid relegation, but being in the relegation battle diminishes their attractiveness to players.

Mauricio Pelligrino needs to make a move to keep Southampton in the Premier League, and Sturridge is the best possible move. They could likely get Sturridge for a decent price, and the fact they can offer him a starting role should help to persuade him. Sturridge could fit perfectly at Southampton and could become a starter almost immediately. If his main goal is getting playing time ahead of the World Cup, Southampton are a great option.
