5 possible destinations for Liverpool’s Daniel Sturridge
1. Newcastle
Rafa Benitez and Newcastle have had a tumultuous first campaign back in the top flight and their biggest issue has been goalscoring. Similar to the clubs already mentioned, Newcastle sit in 13th with only 22 points, two above the drop zone. Their lack of goalscoring — 20 goals in 22 games — is the biggest reason for their poor start. Dwight Gayle and Joselu both have three goals, but nobody else is really contributing to the attack.
Sturridge could provide an immediate boon to their attack and would likely win the starting job right away. This would be a huge opportunity for Sturridge as those starting minutes he desires are ripe for the taking.
The opportunity to play for an established manager like Benitez is also attractive and would be a plus for a player of Sturridge’s quality. Everything makes sense in this possible move. Playing time, manager, club that’s not really in much danger of going down. It would be a perfect move for Sturridge to revive his career and earn himself a spot on the World Cup roster.
Apparently the move is already pretty close to happening, and wages remain as the only issue. If the two sides can reach an agreement on the wages, Sturridge could be a Magpie for the rest of the season. All the stars are aligning for this move to happen, and it may just be the best case scenario. Everyone knows what an in-form Sturridge can do. He only needs the opportunity.
