NBA players, refs to meet amid mounting on-court tension
NBA players and referees schedule a meeting to discuss rising tensions around the league.
It’s no secret referees and players do not get along in sports. In fact, referees are amongst the most hated groups in every sport as missed calls are a part of the game. Although being a professional athlete is no easy task, being a ref is one of the hardest jobs in the game. Even though every league has tension between some refs and players, none is as bad as the NBA. Therefore, the NBA players and refs have come to an agreement to hold a meeting to discuss the issue.
The meeting is set to take place on All-Star weekend. The meeting is rumored to include three representatives from each side and possibly a moderator. The players and refs are set to discuss the rising tension amongst the two sides in the league this season. Tensions reached a season high when Shaun Livingston of the Warriors head-butted an official. Although they’ve yet to reach a higher level, the tension is glaringly obvious a month later. Players and officials have been in a feud this season and some believe it’s ruining the game.

Many coaches and players have spoken out against the refs and received fines this season. Many superstars have received unfortunate fouls, some have gotten ejected and games have been decided by missed or wrong calls. The situation has impacted the game in a negative way for months and both sides agree it’s time to put a stop to all of it.
The National Basketball Players Association announced the meeting between the two sides will take place on Feb. 17 when the players are in Los Angeles for the All-Star game. The two sides hope to resolve the issues to make for a better second half of the season.
