Maurkice Pouncey got a little headed on Sunday and seemingly got away with shoving an official.

One key to victory for the Pittsburgh Steelers in Sunday’s AFC Divisional round game was to get inside the heads of the Jaguars vaunted defense. It’s a unit that has proved in the past to be hot-headed and that’s worked against them on a few different occasions.

After dropping an opening drive touchdown to the Jags, it seemed like psychological warfare would need to be a part of the gameplan. Pittsburgh failed to do anything on its first drive of the game and the offensive line decided to get a little chippy to let the Jaguars know they’re there.

Maurkice Pouncey might have gone a little too far, and probably got off the hook on what could have been an ejection in the first quarter. After the play and during the scuffle, it absolutely looks like Pouncey shoved the official out of his way.

It sure looks like that’s a shove, and the Steelers should be counting their blessings that it wasn’t called. Shoving an official — or just putting your hands on one — is good for an ejection. If the Steelers had lost their starting center on the first offensive drive of the game, that changes everything.

Not too long after this play, the Steelers turned the ball over and then gave up another touchdown to fall into a 14-0 hole. Perhaps the psychological warfare Pittsburgh intended to use against Jacksonville blew up in its face before the bomb hit the ground.
