2018 NFL Mock Draft: Giants land Sam Darnold
By Brad Weiss
The New York Giants are still looking for their next head coach, as the team parted ways with Ben McAdoo during the end of the regular season. Defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo took over on an interim basis, but he is likely not to be offered the job full time. As we get closer to the end of the playoffs, some names still coaching have become the favorite to land the job, and Minnesota Vikings offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur has emerged as the front-runner.
Whoever takes over the job in the Big Apple will have a lot of work to do with this team. The Giants were supposed to challenge for the NFC title this past season, but injuries, and terrible coaching really did them in. Shurmur was able to do a lot with an injury-depleted Vikings offense this season, and if he does get the Giants gig, expect the team to be much-improved over last season.
Due to the fact they won only three games last season, the Giants will be picking second overall in this April’s draft. With that pick, the team should look to bring in their next franchise quarterback, as Eli Manning’s time at the helm is certainly coming to an end. While Josh Rosen from UCLA may go first, Sam Darnold would be one heck of a consolation prize at No. 2, and the Giants should pounce on him with their highest pick since drafting legendary linebacker Lawrence Taylor.
