Manchester United beat Burnley 1-0 at Turf Moor on Saturday, Jan. 20. Here are all the highlights from the match.

Manchester United beat Burnley 1-0 at Turf Moor on Saturday thanks to a second-half strike from Anthony Martial. United were far from their best against a typically well-drilled Clarets side, but they defended well and capitalized on the one good opportunity they were presented.

The first half was short on clear-cut chances, as both sides showed plenty of energy in midfield but failed to string any decent moves together in attack. United went closest through Ashley Young, but he curled wide of the target from an acute angle.

Things picked up in the second half, particularly after Anthony Martial’s opener in the 54th minute. The Frenchman lashed in past Phil Bardsley and off the bar after being played in by an excellent Romelu Lukaku pass.

The goal seemed to give impetus to the home side, however, and they nearly equalized three minutes later, but Johann Berg Gudmundsson’s free-kick hit the top of the bar. The Iceland international also had a penalty appeal waved away shortly after.

Perhaps Burnley’s best chance came in the 71st minute, with Gudmundsson again involved. After winning the ball back deep in United’s half, Ashley Barnes freed Gudmundsson, whose cross was deflected just out of the reach of James Tarkowski by Chris Smalling.

United should have made it two in the 75th minute, when Paul Pogba carried the ball half the length of the pitch, but he chose to shoot instead of playing a simple pass to Martial on his right. Despite a nervy finish, one goal proved enough.
