Watch Kevin Durant break down high school basketball prospects (Video)
Kevin Durant is quickly extending his brand off the court, and he recently broke down some top high school basketball players.
Kevin Durant is clearly one of the best players in the NBA. He has also built a significant following on Twitter and Instagram, and he also has his own YouTube channel now. That lends itself to potential business interests off the court, and his startup Thirty Five Media recently reached a deal with the video site to produce some sports-related content.
On that note, Durant is offering some scouting reports on some top high school players and what he has deemed “the future of the basketball.” In part two below, he takes a look at top prep players Jahvon Quinerly, Shareef O’Neal (Shaq’s son), RJ Barrett, Nico Mannion and Jalen Lecque.
Since Michael Jordan landed on the scene, NBA players and pro athletes as a whole have become popular and more importantly lucrative marketing representatives for companies and products. The world has changed a lot since MJ became “Air Jordan” for Nike, and became a celebrity pitch man almost as much as a great basketball player. But with that advancement top recognizable athletes like Durant also have abundantly more avenues to pursue their interests away from (or closely related to) to the game they play, and then offer content for public consumption that can be valued and of course monetized.

This looks like it will be an ongoing series for Durant, analyzing players as part of his deal to produce content for YouTube. He hinted at moving into breaking down college players next, so there’s that to look forward to as the college basketball regular season winds down and the NCAA Tournament provides a stage for whoever Durant takes a look at.
