Andy Reid will resume playcalling duties for the Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs lost their offensive coordinator Matt Nagy to the Chicago Bears, and since he called the plays, a familiar face is going to step in to take over in 2018.

When Matt Nagy left the Kansas City Chiefs to be the head coach of the Chicago Bears, he took with him his outstanding playcalling abilities. Head coach Andy Reid had been calling the plays for the Chiefs all the way up until week 13 when they played the New York Jets.

From that point on, the Chiefs offense was back on point, scoring no fewer than 26 points the rest of the regular season. Now that Nagy is gone, someone has to call the plays, and that someone is none other than Andy Reid.

Andy Reid told Terez Paylor of the Kansas City Star,  “I’m going to go back to doing that; I’ll do that”. Evidently Andy Reid did actually call the plays when Patrick Mahomes started week 17 against the Denver Broncos. Reid also took the blame for the offense’s poor second half performance against the Tennessee Titans in the Wild Card round. Of course, Matt Nagy came out shortly after taking the Bears job and say he was the one calling plays, but that’s all in the past.

Reid calling the plays for the upcoming season isn’t all that bad of an idea. If he called the plays while the team was in Denver then you have to like what you saw if you’re a Chiefs fan. Not to mention they now have a new offensive coordinator in Eric Bieniemy who was the team’s running backs coach from 2013 through last season.

Bieniemy is well liked among the players, especially the running backs, but if Mahomes is indeed going to be the starter for the Chiefs next season ,there’s no better coach equipped to call plays for him than Andy Reid.

One can only hope Reid has learned from last season and doesn’t fall in love with his sometimes questionable tendencies going forward.
