NBA Trade Deadline 2018: One trade every team should make
By Daniel Lewis
Philadelphia 76ers
Send: Amir Johnson, 2018 second round pick (Clippers or Knicks)
Receive: Vince Carter
It’s incredible that Carter is doing what he’s doing at 40 years young. He turns 41 on January 26, and is shooting 38 percent from the perimeter. While the 76ers are hovering around .500, they are about to be without J.J. Redick for a few weeks after he suffered a leg injury. Adding the veteran wing to their lineup gives them an experienced player to help them prepare for the playoffs, and he can still contribute off the bench for them. He’s the kind of guy that could win the 76ers a couple games after the All-Star break, and have fun with a young team in what could be his final season.
Johnson’s expiring contract could be used as part of a larger trade, but if those aren’t available for Philly, getting a contributor like Carter that could swing a playoff game is a fine trade to make at the deadline. They can always add a backup center if one gets bought out as well.
