10 NFL stars the new XFL needs to sign
1. Steve Smith
One of the best receivers to lace up the cleats in the past 20 years? Check. A prototypical diva at the position who never shuts up, on or off the field? Check. Steve Smith carried a massive chip on his shoulder throughout his entire NFL career and it worked out to the tune of over 1,000 receptions for over 14,000 yards. Smith may not be able to play quite at an NFL-level anymore but he can surely hack it in the XFL and would be a huge get for the new league. It’s a happy coincidence that Smith has worked in the media since he’s retired. He’s a savvy guy who can bring it on the field.

Smith is a five-time Pro Bowler and a two-time All-Pro. That’s a phenomenal resume for anyone in the XFL and Smith knows how to gain attention from his words on top of that. It’s hard to find someone as competitive as Smith was through his career. The fact that McMahon said the winning team would get some type of bonus is a nice twist and is sure to stoke the fires of a guy like Smith. He will only be 40 years old in 2020 and it should be easy for Smith to be in shape and ready to go. Much like Terrell Owens, Smith would be a great fit for any type of advertising leading into kickoff.
