We should want to see the Golden State Warriors face the Boston Celtics in the 2018 NBA Finals.

Kyrie Irving and Stephen Curry have had some fierce playoff battles in the past, but a majority of those came with Irving in a uniform for the Cleveland Cavaliers. Two teams making it to three straight NBA Finals is no small feat. It’s an accomplishment that will go down in basketball history, but true fans should hope for something a little different this season.

Curry and Irving faced off again on Saturday night at Oracle Arena, and they were both spectacular during the 109-105 victory for the Warriors.

“The way he started the game tonight was pretty crazy,” Curry said to ESPN. “We try to bring the best out of each other. Tonight was one of those nights, just a fun way to play.”

He scored 49 points and made eight 3-pointers, and Irving dropped 37 points with five from downtown. Curry got some MVP chants when the game came to a close, and it wouldn’t surprise anyone to see him take home that trophy this season.

The Cavaliers are the shadow looming over this conversation. They gave in to Irving’s trade demand over the summer, and they traded him to one of their most talented rivals in the Eastern Conference. The Isaiah Thomas experiment has not been going well, and the Cavaliers seem to be imploding more each day. To be fair, a lot of LeBron’s teams in the past have drama happen during this point of the season, and they always pull it together when the playoffs arrive. That doesn’t mean it will happen every time though.

The fact of the matter is that the Cavaliers as currently constructed can’t handle the Warriors in the NBA Finals, and we should be rooting for the Celtics to make it there instead. That way we can see Irving and Curry fight it out in what would be an epic series.
