One of Dan Patrick’s “Danettes” made fun of Alex Smith, but the Chiefs quarterback got some revenge.

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith appeared on the “Dan Patrick Show” from Super Bowl week in Minneapolis on Tuesday morning. He acknowledged his uncertain future with the team, giving a line of expected non-answers, while ultimately expressing his desire to stay with the Chiefs for the final year of his contract.

But with salary cap concerns and a trade up to get Patrick Mahomes in the 2017 draft, the Chiefs will practically have to trade Smith this offseason. There will be multiple teams looking for a quarterback, and Smith is an upgrade to a lot of situations even if no one wants to admit it.

Smith set career-highs in passing yards (4,042) and yards per attempt (8.0) this year, while maintaining his typical efficiency (67.5 percent completion rate, five interceptions in 505 attempts). But he’ll probably never shake the label of “game manager” at this point, with all that means good and bad about the broad perception of his talent.

Dan Patrick’s “Danettes” like to get interactive with guests, at times risking injury, particularly during Super Bowl week. Smith got ready to throw in their studio setup, during a live look-in on television. Philadelphia-area native Andrew “McLovin'” Perloff put on a very ill-fitting Philadelphia Eagles’ helmet and a pair of gloves to serve as the pass catcher for Smith.

As how far away he should be was being measured out for the demonstration, Perloff trolled Smith with a “but it’s not Mahomes, it’s Alex Smith, shouldn’t I get closer?”

Smith proceeded to get some revenge, with a probably unnecessary prompt of “you can pop him” from Patrick. Two throws knocked the helmet from Perloff’s head, and he asked “is it over?”
